Overview

Murphy Brothers works under contract with the municipalities in Western Newfoundlad to operate the weekly municipal curbside garbage and recycling pick-up service.

Here are few things to know about the program:

All residential homes in Western Newfoundland are required to separate garbage from recycling.
Household garbage must be put in clear bags while recyclables can all be combined in blue transparent bags.
Municipalities provide a curbside garbage (clear bags) and a mandatory recycling program (blue bags).
Glass is not recyclable.
Both garbage and recyclable are collected on scheduled routes. Find your collection day <a href="https://www.cornerbrook.com/city-services-bak/garbage-and-recycling/">here</a>.
Waste should be placed at the curb on your scheduled waste collection day by 8:00 a.m.
All garbage is required to be covered by an appropriate garbage net or sheet to prevent birds from tearing it up.
In Corner Brook, there is a limit of 4 (four) bags for regular garbage. If you have more than the limit, garbage bag tags can be purchased at City Hall for $1.00 per tag for each additional bags after the 4 bag limit. Limit of one tag per week.
On the pickup day after a holiday there is a limit of 6 (six) bags.
Just like snow clearing, this is an essential service that is not often interrupted unless conditions are especially poor and the safety of employees is in question.
